La Ratte

£4.75 – £19.50

This variety was first cultivated in the 19th century but suffered a slight dip in popularity which has only been rekindled in the past few decades. A favourite particularly among Michelin starred chefs this French heirloom variety is prized for making a smooth, creamy mash. Being long in shape with a golden skin and a firm, waxy, yellow flesh this variety has a subtle nutty taste that also works well boiled, steamed and wedged.

About this variety

A French heirloom variety first cultivated in the 19th century, grown in Kent.

Storing your potatoes

When you receive your potatoes we advise you keep them in cool, dark, dry, frost-free conditions during the winter months. Stored correctly they should keep well for up to a month.

In spring and summer you may prefer to refrigerate them. They'll try to grow once the warmer weather arrives, as we don't spray our potatoes with any sprout-inhibiting chemicals. Kept in the fridge they should last a couple of weeks.

A note on seed potatoes

All our varieties are grown from certified seed stock and are destined for your table. We do not supply any certified seed potatoes.
